Convert a notebook to a different format - Microsoft Support
I'd like to find how to edit notebook on my office, and not update all my notebooks to format- because I use a computer running windows xp, which can't support office or above.

This is and I just paid for Office and it clearly stated on the web page that I would be able to read and edit OneNote files with OneNote This is not true.
OneNote can read the older files BUT it definitely will not allow editing them. Why is it acceptable to keep misleading the customers? This original post is from MS couldn't have fixed that website since then? That is upsetting to me! Microsoft should simply put out a compatibility package for to OneNote. I downloaded and installed the compatibility package that covers Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Why did they leave out OneNote? So, after searching around the Microsoft website I discovered that I could simply download OneNote for free and use it. I tested it out and converted a OneNote notebook to version, which seems to be the same file format as the format, and it works. I can now read and edit all my OneNote notebooks. Of course now they are all in the format for OneNote so nobody can use OneNote to edit them but in my case, I am the only person editing or reading them.
This solves my problem. For everyone else, there's much reason to continue using the version. The free download allows you to keep your notebooks on your PC, off the cloud, or you can use the cloud if you like.
